Folks,

I am in the process of trying to replace my rear leaf springs. When I tried to remove the front bracket the bolts turned but won't come out. I assume there is one of those crappy clips for each one that is spinning with it. Since there are no access holes inside the car, do I have to drill out holes in my floors to get to them or is there another way?

i use a cutting torch for them but if that is not an option for you try an electric cutting wheel and cut the bolts

Yah, cut the heads off with an air or electric cut off wheel.

If I cut them off, how should I reconnect the bracket? Can I just tap the holes and use new larger bolts?

The nuts are just body clips that are removeable. You buy new clip/nuts and new bolts. They have them at the auto parts stores. The dealerships have them too but all they have are metric. Metric will work.

Thanks for the replies. Not to sound like a dumb a**, but how can I get the clips in place? I don't have access to old ones. That's why I was wondering if I had to driil holes in the floors to get to them. I have the same issues with my console bolts. Those clips are the devil.

When you get the bracket off you will see. There are slots.

Thanks Jim and 69Birdman for the help. I was not having a good Father's day. Yeah I got a clue once I grinded the bolt heads off. I'm suprised those clips are strong enough for that application.

The rest is easier. Be careful not to get the bolt cross threaded in the clip. It's easy to do with those clips.
