The quality is very good, I had the original to compare it to, the original was just stripped out on the inside. The problem with the new one, and I read others having problems installing them, is that the diameter of the hole is about .020" to small. I have a machinists background and have a few good sets of drills to play with. I found that I could slip a 15/32 drill into the old one, (mainly concerned with just the lead in, before the gear teeth start) but could not on the new one. After trying to press it on to the crank in the door for a while, I eventually just drilled out the lead in to the new one. Only taking about that .020 off for about 1/4 inch deep. This allows the handle to slide onto the crank far enough to get the screw started.
I bought 2 new screws from the same company, and I broke one the other day trying to get the original handle to tighten up to get the remaining teeth to catch, The Bolt Head just twisted off. So when I went to finally screw on the new one, after drilling it, I was very careful. PITA BTW, I've read others complaining about getting a wrench in there to tighten. I used a ratcheting wrench to start, (5/16") I could get 1 or 2 clicks on the backstroke, slow going, but I've been waiting a good 10 years for this fix...yea, procrastinated, got tired of rolling the window down to get out:) Switched to a open end 5/16" to finish it up.
Strange though, the drivers side that I'm doing, I still have a gap behind the chrome backing plate to the door panel cup. So the plate is loose. I'm afraid to tighten up anymore due to that first screw cracking. The handle is tight, and the door opens, if it's not tight enough the handle will strip. Vicious cycle. The Passenger side original handle and back plate are nice and tight against the door cup.
That's it for now, anyway, as I said it is a good looking handle, heavy, nice chrome, but seems to be a little small. If you ever look at that door crank, the steel appears very hard, and mine, even though the old handle was stripped, the Crank is in perfect shape. I just suggest drilling it out for the lead in to get that screw started. Wish I had a beefier screw to play with.
