67 bird , removed front fenders, inner wheel wells, I need to replace radiator core support. Engine is also completely removed also. I want to replace anything while I'm this stage. Bushings , shocks , coils ECT. Anything wrong with using original control arms if In good condition but dry rotted bushings. ?? Seen a lot of different set up's. Doe' s anybody have any opinions in this stage of redoing front end. Want to try to keep it simple, but willing to spend if justified .
I just completed refurbishing my old control arms, no issues. If you are doing it yourself you have to be careful pressing the bushings in and out. You cannot simply place them in the press without supporting the control arm. I cut up several pieces of 1 1/2" pipe to support the control arm while pressing the bushings.
If you're paying somebody to replace the bushings and ball joints then it might be cost effective to get the repop control arms that come with new bushings and ball joints installed. i reused my uppers and ended up paying as much for new bushings installed as it would have costed for whole new control arms.
Yes, I think your right, was looking at the cost for new control arms that included everything, just seems easier because I would need to have a shop put bushings in.
