We used a claybar (entirely by accident... my nine year old daughter was helping clean the car) and ALL the oxidation was removed, and the rubber cushion looks like brand new!
We had to throw the claybar away when she was done, it was too dirty to use.

I have mine all apart and ready for paint too. Did you remove all the trim? That was a fun job. Try brake fluid on the rubber cushions. It takes off any paint and oxidation. Then any of the tire shine stuff should bring back the shiney black appearance.
I also sandblasted my rubber cushions to remove all the road grime. After that, a good application of Mothers "Back to Black" brought them back to shiny new appearance.
