I have an early 67 400 vert (LOR 1630). It came to me with spoke hub caps with a red PMD emblem in the center. I have never seen another FGF with this wheel style. I cannot see anything in my body tag or VIN tag that identifies this option. The options list for this car are: WD, 2L 3F, 4Q, 5Y. I changed the car to mag wheels and gave the hubcaps away to my dad and never saw them again. Are they common and are they hard to find/expensive? Are they desirable? This car was titled and driven as a demo model by the dealers wife and sold after 3 months when I bought it. Is it possible that these hubcaps were changed by the dealer? What wheels should this car have? Shirl Dickey
Wire wheel covers were an option. Not sure if they'd be identified on PHS docs. I've seen a few birds at the Norwalk OH Pontiac nationals wearing wire wheel covers.
Like these? They came on my '68. I ended up selling them a number of years ago after I put Rally II's on.
I have occasionally seen a set for sale, but none were as nice as the set I sold.
I was not aware that they came on '67 model year, but perhaps they could have.
I debated a long time whether or not I should sell them. But another member REALLY wanted them.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not sure. Wow. I do not think I've EVER seen those on a '67!
I'd say they are pretty rare.

You would need to order the PHS for your car to determine the wheel and tire options. With a fairly rare car like you have, PHS would be a great investment! It will show build date, all options, codes, etc.

According to the Rocky Rotella book, only 3,505 '67s had wire wheel disks from the factory. That's only 4.2% of all '67s.
Back then, I liked the wire disks and real wire wheels more than any other wheel combination although I never owned a set until my '86 Buick Century. But they are fun to clean.

Does Rocky say how many came with them in '68? Maybe I should have kept mine. I did keep the original steel wheels. Use those for spare tires as I'd never use the space saver in this day and age.

Yes and they are even more rare than in '67. In '68 he shows just 2,932 code 452, wire wheel disks. With 107,000 '68s built, that would be 2.7% of all '68s had the wires. Maybe the Rally 2's attracted more of the wheel upgrade orders that year.

Gulp! Bad decision! I did not like the look on my 400 'vert. Oh well.

Fairly rare (IMO) , 67 400 'vert, almost one owner. Mostly original. Not many of those left these days. Many resto-mods, many re-born 6 bangers with new 400 engines.

Thanks to all for a very interesting discussion. According to the order sheet I got with my 69, it too came with wire wheel discs. Its got Rallye II wheels on it now. Maybe I should keep an eye out for a set of wire wheel discs. The car has disc brakes so I imagine it would have had 15" wheels or some special disc brake 14" wheels when new. In the source quoted was there any indication of how many 69's came with the wire wheel caps.
