I was wondering if anyone here has done a 2004R conversion. I am swapping out a ST300. My '68 firebird is a 350ci - 2bbl. I am trying to figure out the best way to set up the TV Cable. I checked out and contacted Bowtie Overdrives, but they wanted me to send them my 2bbl and they would retrofit it with their BTO TV Cable Set up. I am not sure why they felt the need to do the retrofit for me & they want approx $250 with the kit/labor, plus s&h from PA to CA. Anyway I am sure there are other kits out there to assist in setting up the TV Cable properly at the carb and wondering if someone could share their solutions, pics, links, etc. Thanks.
I have done the conversion to a 2004R transmission, but haven't completed the restoration on the car yet and am using a Bowler tru-shift correction system but doesn't appear to be one for a stock two barrel. I have a holly carb so it works for my carb. You might be able to contact them and see if they have one for your carb, but otherwise I think if BTO can do it, that is gong to be about as good as you can get because there aren't many if any company's out there that are making these for the stock Rochester carbs.....good luck and post your updates here.
Thanks, I might need to circle back with BTO then and see why they felt the need to install it on the carb themselves. I know the TV cable is the heart of the trans, but sending the carb to CA not what I wanted to do ;-)
I think why they want your carb to install it on as a lot of carbs are different and if they have to make one for the carb they have it there to do it on as the geometry for these throttle plate adapters have to be exactly correct or you run the risk of screwing your transmission up. That what I was told before when I was trying to find one for my Rochester 4 barrel and no one made them for a 69 carb. I have heard of people sending there carbs to them and not having any problems with them returning it. Please post what you do and what the thing looks like if you have it done by them.
Thanks, will do. I am hoping this will be a clean looking install. Worst case scenario, I am figuring I should be able to find another Rochester 2GC and ship them that one. I know there are a slew of Camaro's out there where the guys did the swap and talked to a couple of them, plus read up on the swap here and everywhere I could get info. I actually purchased both the BTO crossmember and an OE TH400 crossmember. I am hoping to get away with using the TH400 and not having to touch my stock "Gardner" exhaust system Hopefully the TV set up will be the worst part about the swap... but this resto hasn't been as easy going as I would have liked. I could've sworn these weren't as difficult when I was a younger guy ;-)
The TH400 crossmember will work, but the only problem with it, it covers up a couple of the tranny pan bolts which makes it difficult taking the pan off. The crossmember in this link http://www.ebay.com/itm/XMCA67692-Bowtie-Overdrives-Transmission-Tranny-Crossmember-200R-Trans/262328944579?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649 works perfectly and doesn't cover up any pan bolts
