It seems that the OEM latch is a little different than the original. I tried moving the latch stud in the door jam up, down and sideways. And added washers to extend stud but it still hits . Has anyone encounter this problem? Comparing the latching levers that grab the stud the spacing from the body of the latch is wider. Since this latch is for Firdbird / Camaro I was wondering if the the Camaro stud if different?
Both should be the same size. Try pushing it into the lock just by its self and not bolted into the car. Sometimes the latch mechanism can get beat up from worn hinges. Did you mark the location of the old one before taking it out? How are the pins and bushings in your hinges?

Do you mean OER?
I bought three different latches for my '68 back about 5-6 years ago, and every one of them "for Firebird" were different. I remember one of them was so far off that I returned it straight out. One other one fit well, and the third one I ended up using the old hardware with the new chrome handle.
Sorry, I do not remember which brands were which, but based on 95% of the other OER crap out there, it wouldn't surprise me if it was their product.

First I flipped the stock washer on the stud and added another thin washer. The stud needed to go inboard a little.Next closed the latch and toke a measurement where it captures the
stud , SMALLER diameter. Went to Home Depot and purchased a carbide cutter for my Dremel. After grinding ( a few times) and closing the door a few times if finally opened by it
self without the need of hitting it with my hand. Now I need to buy some touch up paint to paint around the stud washer.
Hope this someone who needs to replace a door latch.
Wow, lots of crap to fix on something that should of fit correctly in the first place. Sorry to hear that another OER part not up to par...so typical. One reason I don't buy OER parts anymore. Thanks for sharing, maybe it will save someone some agony in the future!
I learned the hard way with parts from OER, what trash they put on the market. Some of the stuff I had gotten was so for off it won't work at all. I run when I see the name.

Sam, Don't forget to put door latch spring on. See this thread: [url=https://firstgenfirebird.org/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=303788&Searchpage=1&Main=36401&Words=%2Blatch+%2Bspring&Search=true#Post303788]https://firstgenfirebird.org/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=303788&Searchpage=1&Main=36401&Words=%2Blatch+%2Bspring&Search=true#Post303788[/urls
It helps the latch work more effectively. A lot of people miss it because it's so small and typically falls out when you open up the door.
