What's all your comments or suggestions on powder coating parts for a restoration project. Will this process have an effect on the evaluation of the car? Or is it better to paint?
Obviously, I'm referring to all the parts that came black in color from factory.
I'm surprised no one answered this post as I imagine a number of us have gone through a chassis a time or two. My opinion is to paint not powder coat. Parts were originally painted. Powder coat is pretty expensive to do and not original. You can always touch up the paint. Also different sheen levels were used on various black painted parts and I'd be sure they can be replicated if I went in that direction. Just my thoughts. Doug
The car I found is all matching number, one owner, was stored for 42 years in a barn. I want to restore it as original as possible. Is there a chart where I can find all the different color shades/tones for a 67?
Gloss levels can be replicated in powder coating. I agree I would prefer paint but I don't see how powder coating the sub-frame would greatly impact its value.

If your doing a "driver" car then it would be better to powder coat your parts. Provided you prep the parts properly. Powder coating needs to be properly prepped just like spray painting. If you screw up your powder coating it's a lot harder to fix.
Powder coating will look great and probably cheaper in the long run compared to spray painting. It will look different but it will look good. However, you can't powder coat all the parts (can't get everything in the oven).
Spray bombs is the cheapest way to go. Some spray bombs are better than others (quality of paint and spray pattern), but they cannot compete with prof paint gun quality. Good guns even save you $$$ as they use low pressure and don't waste paint like spray bombs do.
