I'm looking to install the missing kickdown hardware to my 326 2-speed Firebird. The bracket is missing as well as the switch. I've got an aftermarket carb anyway and I'm not concerned about a "stock" look or configuration. I can probably fabricate a bracket but where should I look for a switch. Again, not concerned with it being "stock" nor appearances, just a cheap, reliably switch.
I'd like to make this work for awhile until I can afford to swap out the tranny for a 350 or 400 down the road.
Check Lokar ( http://www.lokar.com/ ) they have a variety of kick down components for many applications... not cheap, but good products, and many have been happy with them... I'll probably go that way my self... eventually. (4 years now with out a kick down, and haven't really needed to use it... low on the list I guess)
Augy if you are going to swap your tranny then please at least consider a 200-4R or 700-R4. The more gas prices go up the more you will thank me. I get 23+ mpg in my 'Bird.
True! and good point! If you do a little more homework, and a little more searching, you should be able to find a 200R4 overdrive tranny wich will again be the most direct bolt in... a little more work, but well worth it!
I also looked up the kickdown switch for my TH400. No prices listed so I ordered a catalog. I also looked up the switch online. Where would that box mount up to? I thought the kickdown switches were nothing more than the switch at the carb with wires running to the tranny.
Are the 200-4R and 700-R4 as easily swapped out as a Th-350? What should I expect to pay for a used one? The car might get 500-1000 miles a year so it's not really a big concern for me as to what sort of mileage she gets.
