I've got a '68 350 HO convertible 4 speed that was ordered without a tach. So, in the course of freshening the interior, I decided to add a small aftermarket tach. For those who have done the same - where did you put it? Just looking for ideas. I have tilt wheel, which means if I put it in the middle of the steering column, it has to be close to the steering wheel or it will hit the instrument cluster if the wheel is tilted up.
Post a pic if you have one!
Thanks, Mark

don't have a picture...but heard over the years that even from factory it was quite exact....but it does cut into the brace some....maybe someone has a "close" picture..but I wouldn't worry too much about the exact location...

He's talking about placing it in the interior, not on the hood.
On my first Mustang I put it on the steering column, but I did not have a tilt column. I have seen a lot of people mount them to the top of the dash.

Thanks. I decided to try the steering column for now and see how I like it. It is a very small tach (< 3"). But, I was non-commital and used 3M tape for now. :-)

I "temporarily" mounted mine on the column with a large black cable zap strap. That was seven years ago, a lot of changes on the car since then but the strap still holds the tach. Almost looks like it's the way it was supposed to be attached, almost.

I plan on mounting my tach in the same place Bjorn put it.
I assume your tach is back lit. If it is and you're floor shift, the curved connector from the steering column harness has an extra slot at the end you could tap into for the backlight. Just a thought having just done my turn signal switch...

I have a mini tach mounted to the column at about 10:00 position. If it's in the middle you can't see the speedo

I had my after market tach installed just under dash close to the ignition. It kept the tach outside the gauges. Note the '74 steering wheel. Fits on 68 bird with no issues!

I ended up placing mine in the clock housing on the center console. It slid in perfectly. Visibility is fine for typical use.
