So i picked this old bird up last week
non a/c
manual steering
manual trans
brand new interior
this is a project!!!!!!!!!
it does have a fresh paint job
i hate to ask but what does everyone think about a LS swap from a WS6?
it does have a back wing for drag racing. guy was gonna do a mini tub but changed his mind
got a hell of a deal on it thoughts and suggestions while i continuely build/upgrade the old car, thinking about putting a 69 trans am spoiler on, putting a ram air tach hood on and of course changing the wheels drag lites came on the car.
Anyone got suggestions for a new set of wheels or should i keep the ones i got on it?
Also i'm new and i am glad to join to community. This is my first firebird and i love it.

Nice car. Different but not too much. Like the color and the paint quality. Mags look good with your car, I would keep them. The red accent used throughout the car looks great. The car is unique, so you could get away with a 69 rear wing. You need to draw in the red accent and decide which or both paint colors. Get a 400 hood and a tach as well. Please don't have a chebby motor in it.

Cheers!

Thanks, i really like the red accents myself! i am a little lost with the wheels i'm not sure whether to keep them or not. Of course i'm going with a pontiac engine i haven't decided what yet maybe a 400 or a 326!

I like the red on the rims, ties into the rest of the car. I have vintage centerlines that I don't think hurt a driver car IMO.

If you are going to build your engine go see the boys at Butler Performance. Not really worth doing the 326 because it will cost about the same to build as a 400 and worth a lot less.

I'll more than likely go with a 400 i would love to find a pontiac 455 but too bad it wouldn't be era correct.

w a 455 youre likely to have hot issues....radiator in these are smaller than the cars that had 455s...it CAN be remedied, but my friends who have them , have lots of issues...300 should be fine...

Yea it could be problematic. I'm considering a resto mod with a LS i'm
not sure. The car is done with the exception of the drivetrain. What would be a estimate of the cars value after a LS swap not wanting to sell it anytime soon might keep it forever, it would just be a great base for a car would be reliable and i would get more power with a base motor.

Drove mine the other day when it was 95 here in AZ. No problems ever with 4 row copper radiator, Hayden H.D. fan clutch and 7 blade fan.

all depends on the values at the time ,and the 'correct value' will be depending on buyers wishes...if he wants an LS, you might get more, if he wants 'original' , maybe less...value is always based on agreed price between willing seller and willing buyer...

you might be one of the lucky ones...two of my buddies here in Houston, keep having hot issues with theirs....my 400 was running hot when I bought it...but got it fixed , slowly, item after item...and was not running hot when I finally sold it

Naaa not luck at all
I've been working with these pontiacs for many years.
Many times to large of a water pump pulley is the culprit when everything else is correct.

When folks complain about thier Pontiac “running hot” sometimes they are overreacting when it goes a few degrees above the thermostat rating.
