I replaced the leaf springs in my '68 with a set from PST. This set of springs has an extra leaf which did not allow me to use both pads as is used with the stock springs. I used just one pad but it was still thick enough that the bottom mount would not mount flush to the axle bracket, there is about quarter inch gap. What I did at the time was to use washers to make up the difference so I could torque the nuts on the U-bolts, which seemed to work. I am now in the process of adding Caltracs bars and was wondering if I can get away with the washers on the Caltracs mount? I can't leave the pad out entirely as the spring does not totally fill the space alone, got to have something in there. Do they make thinner pads? Has any one had this issue and what did you do? Hope this makes sense. This issue has nothing to do with the Caltracs bars. Any help is greatly appreciated! Ken
That's what I did, left the pads out, if the spring pack is too short without the pads use a piece of 1/8" thick steel for a shim. Mine was for monoleaf so I had to weld some blocks to raise the height of the perch and didn't bother with the pads.
