So I have a sunoco near that has turbo blue 110 octane. I have a wz 400 with 62 heads ( might be 10:1 ) Is this recommended ? it is expensive but is it kinda better ?
2012 Mustang Boss 302 #1918, Competition Orange. FGF replacement 2006 Mustang V6 Pony, Vista Blue. Factory ordered. 2019 BMW X3 (Titled to the wife, but I'm always driving it for her. So I'm claiming it) Old projects, gone but not forgotten: 1967 FB 400, original CA car. After 22 years of work, trashed by the guy who was supposed to paint it. I had to sell it. 1980 Turbo Trans Am 1970 Mustang fastback, 351C 4Bbl, auto 1988 Mustang GT, 5 speed 1983 F-150 4x4, built 302 1994 Chevy K2500 HD 4x4, 454 TBI
FWIW. Have a 461 with about 10.2cr/234/244 - 110lsa mft cam. Before starting complete body work years back(another story...) I mixed 50/50 87 octane(w/10% ethanol) with 93 octane. After over 500 hard street driving and at least 100 1/4 mile strip runs at 114 mgh, while engine was out inspection on bearings and heads checked perfect.

Higher octane by itself doesn't help you unless you have a detonation problem. Other parts of the gas might have minor benefit but unless you are pushing the limits of your engine, you won't see anythjng but a drain on your wallet.

High octane doesn’t contain more energy than low octane. The benefit is the ability to use higher compression and more timing advance to produce more power. Depending on your motor setup, there may be no benefit
When my 400 was pretty much stock, 16 heads, using the higher octane fuels made a noticeable difference. I mostly used the Low Lead 100 I could get at a small local airport. My engine responded well to this fuel. ... And the exhaust smelled better. That fuel was only $1 more, or so, than premium pump gas. ... And I might drive 1,000 miles per year, so...
Was it necessary. No. Did I like it? Yes
Try it for yourself and see if there is any noticeable difference. I look forward to your comments.
I'm a hobbyist. Not a professional. Don't be hatin'!
not much diff I never had a detonation issue, I think ill save the money. I believe its a stock cam I should check the actual compression since they are 62 heads
This...if it were no difference in price better smelling gas would likely convince people we are doing good things for the environment burning hydrocarbons.

There is no "better gas" anywhere in the counties surrounding Chicago so I have to use additives with fill-ups of 93-94 octane corn squeezins. If I didn't the marbles rolling around in my engine on acceleration and the lack of valve seat protection would do damage.
I usually run my 389 bird on 93 octane. It knocks and pings at WOT but runs ok otherwise. I needed gas the other day and there was only 91 octane ethanol free available. The increase in pinging was noticeable just from 2 less octane. I wish they’d sell 95 octane
