I am trying to locate a picture of air cleaner # 6423206 (standard) AND air cleaner 6424505 (heavy duty) These air cleaners where used in 1967 for vehicles with A.I.R air injection They where used on Birds with the 4bbl AFB carburettor with A.I.R..................326 ENGINE The only way I will be convinced what they really look like- is if the original decal is on it..........with those part numbers I mentioned above............. There just seems to be so much confusion out there in my opinion- I hope someone has photos- so I can put this to rest and so I can source the correct air cleaner. Thanks in advance guys................
HAS ANYONE A 1967 ,326 CALIFORNIAN BIRD WITH A 4 BARREL AFB CARB ON IT? IF SO I AM INTERESTED IN SEEING THE ORIGINAL AIR CLEANER ON IT? IF YOU HAVE IT.
IF YOU CAN POST A PICTURE IT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED............. THANKS TO ALL

Franks parts shows an aircleaner for a 326 2bbll A.I.R. The aircleaner for a 326-4bbl with A.I.R with an AFB carburettor is totally different. And Bob- yes the 67 firebirds-4BBL with a 326 came with an AFB CARBURETOR AFB4234S 1967 4 326 M FB AFB4245S 1967 4 326 M FB WITH A.I.R. AFB4246S 1967 4 326 A FB AFB4248S 1967 4 326 A FB WITH A.I.R.
400'S came with the quadrajet I have attached what I believe to be a correct air cleaner for a 67 326 4bbl AFB However I am still unclear if its the correct one...................namely as per the parts numbers I mentioned in my previous post.
Hope others can provide their input. thanks guys. claude .
also another picture from another firebird site................... As you can see- the snorkel is totally different to others I have seen................and unlike the 1967- 326-2bbl air cleaner- the lid is a pancake- (like 68's) The 67- 2bbl has a flat base and the lid is actually like a top hat-
Wow! How many different types of air cleaners came on 67 Firebirds? I always thought the chrome pancake type came on 400 motors. Then there was the std black body and lid. Then there were the AIR versions too, which were different somehow? Did they have the black body and chrome lid version like 8-9 had? Only difference in the later years were the 350s got a small round snorkle opening and the 400s got the oblong opening and a chrome lid as far as I know. They didn't make an AIR version in 68, right? Makes me wonder if that chrome pancke trype for an AFB that I got with the 66 GTO intake might not have a crossover application afterall.
Yes, '67 400's built for California had a air cleaner with a black bottom section with snorkel and a chrome lid similar to the '68's

So the Cali 400's snorkle was pointed toward the driver side and the others were pointed toward the pass side? How did the heat riser off the manifold work off the pass side?
I believe somebody pointed out the air cleaner in that photo is not oriented correctly.

In 1967- there were 6 different (part numbers) air cleaners that were used for the birds with a 4bbl 326 engine.................. There were 6 differing engine applications- and 6 differing air cleaners (part numbers)
There were also 5 different (part numbers) air cleaners that were used for the birds with a 4bbl 400 engine.................... There were 6 differing applications- however only 5 differing air cleaners (part numbers)
I have not included 67 birds with a 2bbl application above.
The 67 birds with a 400 engine WITHOUT RAM AIR, OR A.I.R OR CLOSED CRANKCASE VENT ALL HAD A CHROME PANCAKE LID. Someone can correct me if I am wrong here..................
So going back to the crux of the post....................... Anyone like to forward any pictures that they believe are the true correct 6423206 (standard air cleaner) and 6424505 (heavy duty air cleaner)
yes rob what a nightmare indeed.................................... Why Pontiac had so many differing aircleaners as opposed to 68 is anyones guess........................ But my presumption is because of the emissions laws perhaps in 67????????????????
The post goes on......................................
I realize this is a very old thread. I have a very nice 6423206 base if someone needs it or pics of the original sticker Raiiita@yahoo.com If you want or need pics
