I just purchased a 69 bird and I am going through everything to see what needs to be fixed or improved. There is a nasty little sound when I turn the wheel fully left or fully right. When it reaches the end, on both left or right side, its "screams".
Before I start planning to get hands on, any clue what that is?

I think it could be a loose or bad belt or low fluid

Sounds like the belt is slipping on the pulley - tighten it up, or replace it.

Might also want to flush the system out and add some fresh ATF to it.

You need to avoid forcing the wheel at the stops.

Well it is a Chevy. JUST ran the audio thru the universal translator...here is the report:

I agree with Gus about the belt or fluid.

Hmm, if it is a Chebby it would be a 67 or 68, they moved the alternator to the right side in 69. Power steering bracket looks quite a bit like the Pontiac 68 hard to tell though. Would only have to look at the two cylinder heads. Pontiac has the right side, passenger, mounted forward of the left side, Chebby has the left side mounted forward of the right.

I'm sure Misema knows what it is.

pull the belts off and spin the Alt and PS by hand.

Put one belt on at a time and isolate the issue.

If the pulleys are made for the two different size belts run a 15xx size one and a 17xx size for the other.
