It's been awhile since I posted anything relevant in the forums. After 7 years of having the Firebird off the road (metal work, body work, paint) I finally got the body back from paint. I'm in the process of re-wiring my entire car. I will be running a complete American Autowire Classic Update kit for my car: https://www.americanautowire.com/shop/complete-wiring-kit-1967-68-firebird I took a ton of pictures when I was disassembling the car and now I can't find them. I've been searching the forums for the under dash wiring layout (not a schematic) so I can layout the new wiring harness correctly. If anyone has done this recently and has photo's of the under dash wiring that would be great.
Also, am I correct in assuming that the lights are top left of the steering wheel, wipers bottom left, lighter upper right and ignition bottom right? Sorry, it's been 7 years since I tore it apart and I can't remember where everything was. I was looking for images online but I couldn't find anything close enough to make out their function.
You are correct. Besides the attached photo of the original dash of my '68, you can refer to the '68 owners manual confirming those correct locations.
Note that there are diagrams in the '68 Sales Guide, Parts Illustrations book and the '68 Pontiac Service Manual that incorrectly show the lights and wiper switches switched.
See my old removed web page where I discussed the errors: http://web.archive.org/web/20091027092352/http://www.geocities.com/jims68fb/DocumentationErrors.html
Just an FYI if anyone goes the American Autowire Classic Update route, they supply a new ignition switch with keys (and headlight switch). New switch has 5 plugs on back and the original switch had 7 plugs. You can't use your original one since they use a more modern switch which won't work. Also, the key barrel for the ignitions are different as well.
