does anyone know what was used as the factory sound deadener with the headliner for 68 bird? was it a cardboard or fabric like insulator or a thick wading of fabric or something?
reason is, I had to peel back the edge of the factory headliner to fix a minor tear and I noticed a lot of fabric like stuff just packed in there kinda willy nilly. im guessing its factory stuff cuz its the original liner but seems odd to me. either way, is this legit stuff? could it just be all crumbled and broken up stuff from the original material? Im 100% positive its a factory liner and has never been adulterated.
I removed the factory headliner from my '68. Behind the sail panels was more of a jute like insulation. Under the headliner itself was kind of a pressed paper material. Installation of sound deadener/insulation was decidedly not willy-nilly. Factory insulation was intact so I did not remove but I thought about it. The little I picked at it, I thought removal would end up being a huge mess as insulation seemed to fall apart into dust easily.
I wonder if you found a mouse nest?
