Not sure just how it happened but chipped off a piece of glass from the top edge of the drivers door window. looking for a replacement. Anyone have one available? The car is a '69 Firebird convertible. Does the Camaro glass interchange?
Per the CRG Report 1967-1969 Camaro OEM Window Glass; "Soft-Ray Added to tinted GM OEM glass. Soft-Ray is a GM tradename and is not used for other OEM tinted glass. Tinted OEM glass of this era was green in color, whereas current Soft-Ray glass is blue."
And, yes, the options Soft-ray glass - all windows and Soft-ray glass - windshield only should be in code 53 on the PHS. At least it is on my '68 records.
Just like Jim says... Soft - ray is what most people call tinted. But tinted glass is very dark, almost solid blue. I am fairly sure (90%)? that 68-69 glass for firebird is the same, except for bird glass. That would also fit '69, but technically not be correct. 'Maro glass is the same size and would interchange. 'Maro's version of bird glass is called Astro-Glass. (for '68 only as well) I have two or three sets of soft-ray door glass from various '68's. A couple of pieces of bird glass, but not a pair. I have one soft-ray and one tinted bird glass. Coupes and convertible door glass is the same, but rear quarter windows are different for 'verts.
I am heading to Door County in August and could bring a piece of glass if you still need it.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not sure. 68tpls, August could work out fine. The chip in the glass doesn't affect anything other than appearance. Even if I had the new glass now it probably wouldn't get changed until fall. Thanks, Hank
