I had been running my stereo off of the fuse that goes to the cigar lighter, courtesy lights, etc. Had problems with it last fall, moved stereo, same problem, will blow fuse immediately. Maybe lighter, door switch. Any suggestions for diagnosing this issue, any common problems? Do I have to move the dash panel to get to lighter?
You can unplug the lighter without removing the dash, if you can go upside down under the dash. Since it's always hot, either disconnect the battery cable or make sure the fuse is blown. My '69 had an arc caused by a loose lighter socket that eventually softened the connector and the wire dropped and was shorting to ground, causing the same problem you are having. I replaced the bullet connector and shrink tubed it, and all has been fine since.
