I'm sure the stripes that all the vendors sell are basically just stick on decals. I imagine they go on after the paint has been cut and buffed and before any wax has been applied. I'm wondering about their longevity. How long do they last? Are they durable? Do they start to peel off after awhile?
Not sure if my reply will help but, my late uncle had them removed by 1977 as they were starting to look ratty. So, for about nine years as a daily driver. They were also an applied decal originally.
Hey FireBob, if you are preparing to paint your car you can put the decals on after the paint and before the clear coat (assuming you do bc-cc). A good clearcoat over them and they will last as long as your paint job. I did not do any decals on our 'bird, but on my Plymouth I applied them about 5 years ago and they all look great still. Cal
Yeah I think white HO stripes will look nice over the medium blue. I'll probably do like suggested- base coat, stripes, and clear over.
I recalled this photo of a medium blue HO in old Pontiac Magazine, "Action Track" that GM sent me long ago. It was a special Firebird 20th anniversary issue so I save it. Though you might like to see that combo.
I would not spray clear over vinyl moldings. As they age and wear, they will want to peel. When they peel up the clear, you will have a huge mess. Just BCCC and put the stripes over that. If they wear over time, you can pretty safely remove and replace without messing up the paint finish.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not sure.
