I have a '69 350 Firebird. Can someone tell me what tranny and rear-end the attached pics are? The axle code is on passenger side, front of tube. There is also the housing cast code. And i posted pic of a few numbers on the driver's side of tranny. My PHS sheet says its supposed to be a TH350. THANK YOU
I feel it's a GM Corporate 10.5"....my car is a Norwood June customer ordered. Firebird production was supposed to end around March '69 due to one of the plants being on strike. Norwood was chosen to absorb the Firebirds from the other plant and production was pushed out to November '69. Some '69 models were fitted with modified parts (mule cars) to set the '70 model year design. After testing, the cars were sold. Too bad there wasn't an odometer disclosure at dealerships. If so, we could tell if our car was a test. The Trans Am did not sell a lot and remaining components may have ended up in other cars. I'm guessing a lot of mid-year '69's were NOT number matching because of this. Just find an owner that complained about mileage on their new car when they bought it. **Theory**
Wow. You need to get in touch with that kid in Fresno that had the one off mystery bird that he wanted 10 million dollars for. Conspiracy theorist abound. I'd guess someone just reworked the car with what they had on hand. Do you have first hand knowledge/history on the car? Thing is anything could have been done to these cars in the last 50 years. Doesn't have to be some big dark mystery. But if it makes ya feel better then continue on. Whatever makes you happy!
Well, that was quick. I'm an enthusiast, not a conspiracy pusher. Can you tell me why the last models have AEE on their cowel tags? I am new (it's why my handle is Green). This site, and others, are created for collaboration, which includes deep "dark" questions. I got a this car for super cheap and risk nothing researching the history and assembly proceedures of a good GM car. I mentioned above i have The PHS docs and am aware of it's history. I feel that long paragraphs are intimidating but a simple question only gets simple answers. This will be my last post and would like to thank, and know i appreciate, the Premium members who pay for and support research. We buy these cars for our kids. They have questions. Good luck all.

Listen, I didn't mean to be harsh but it seems like everyone would like to think that because their carpet has a different loop to it that it must be a one of one car. The thing is these cars are over 50 years old now and ANYTHING could have been changed. Unless you are the original owner there is no way to say exactly what, or what hasn't, been replaced. Even if you are the original owner( and there are fewer and fewer of those everyday), I know guys that had taken their car into the dealership for warranty work and brought it home with mismatched axles shafts or different things that they had no idea were even swapped out.
I didn't necessarily mean to put you off. Most everyone on this site can be very helpful and even after all these years I'll admit to learning something new nearly everyday. Nothing is out of the realm of possibility.
Don't get all butt hurt over an off hand comment. You gotta have a tougher skin than that if you're going to post on open forums.
Your trans, if original, should have a tag on it with the trans code and date. Also, there will be a stamping of the VIN somewhere on it. On the th400, it is difficult to see without a mirror. Don't know where it is on the th350.
Take a picture of your trans pan and I tell you what trans you have But if you want to see if it’s the original trans, need to find vin stamping on trans like jimc stated Rear end looks like a 8.5 gm/Chevy
Hello folks. My PHS did not specify gear ratio for the rear end. The PHS did say TH350. I posted a pic of the accumulator and pan codes. As for the 10.5, it was used starting with 2nd gen Birds so i am ok with it in my June 69 car. I plan to drop my gas tank for a last spot look for the cast sheet (checked everywhere else). Oh, and instead of drill THROUGH my gear selector cover to reattach it, i used neodymium magnets. It can be removed again if needed. I bought this from a car lot day after they took it in as a trade. I paid 15
I’m not sure about pan code but a turbo 350 will be a square pan with a corner cut off The broadcast sheet should be under rear seat or behind the rear seat I’ve even seen them above headliner on 70’s models
Yup, it's square with a corner cut off. A bunch of research is available online. I'm aware of all the obvious topics and was not wasting anyone's time. I have new questions. I'm pretty sure the pan is from a '77 TH350.
UPDATE: i found partial vin on Driver's side just above pan. It's a match to the car's vin. It is a '69 TH350 original gloss black (dirty) and works super nice. Shifts a bit quick into second and won't stay in kickdown for more than a couple seconds.
