I am fixing the trans tunnel damage, and decided to pull the ratty old carpet that was in here... Which was laid on top of the original carpet in places. When pulling off the sound proofing, I found a couple what look like old bolts in it. I tried to find it on the first gen site, looking here primarily:

But, I didn't see anything relevant. The car was originally a 67 Firebird Base with a 2 speed trans floor mounted.. At least that's my guess. the old mount is still in the car.

I'm patching all the holes currently, if I don't need these for anything, I'll cut them out and patch them as well.

Could those be bolts filling the console mounting nuts?

Genius. I don't have an original center console, so I didn't even think of that. One quick duckduckgo search of 67 firebird console schematic brought up the attached.

Yes, its for the console. Special size bolt etc. I would advise to keep it. The carpet will hide it.

X2, keep the holes in case you or someone else wants to add a console. You could put a different bolt with a lower profile if you are concerned about it showing.

The one with the arrow I was able to unscrew, the one circled was already pounded down into the trans tunnel and I couldn't salvage that. I had to pop it out and weld a patch in there.

Thanks for all the info. I did find one more awesome surprise... They used body caulk to hold in the driver's side floor pan. I had to weld that up. And I found a nice rust hole where water was accumulating over the years, so I cut that out and welded a new piece of steel in there. It's a good thing this will all be hidden because it's not pretty! Can't wait to get the new carpet in. My list is getting short, and I hope to have my engine back in a few weeks from the rebuild.
