So, I have an 68' 3 SPD column shifter, OHC . I've been doing tons of research and I'm getting confused. Inside of NPD catalog they sell 68' 6CLY w/fast ratio PITMAN ARM, (1) with grease fitting and one without..WHY the 2 versions ? I haven't read any tech articles taking about a pitman arm with or without a grease fitting, what-so-ever. Next I'm told that it doesn't matter that the Gearbox is a 3-Bolt or 4 bolt, but I should get a 3-bolt like my original manual gearbox? But, again with no real reason why? And then someone tell me that it doesn't matter if its 4 or 3 bolt?
And LASTLY....I'm told I can get the whole setup....and a rag joint to match the gear box 3/4" shaft instead of the smaller 13/16'' shaft, but I should be concerned what is connected behind the firewall on the steering column???? Which is a "First time" I've heard that.
And get Inverted flare tips or SAE?...does it matter or make it easier?
THIS IS one of the many articles, but the informative one I've read.
https://www.hotrod.com/articles/ccrp-0901-gm-steering-box-upgrade/Things I'm sure of:
supposedly get a an Saginaw 86-89" Monte Carlo gear box? 3-3.25 turns lock to lock. / 12:7:1 Ratio.
Get a pitman arm for my OHC engine.
Get a rebuilt or new pump.
Use a High pressure PS hose and regular return line is fine.
I know that there are better set-ups than others,
Thank you for any help you can provide.
