Hi, this ist my first thread here, being a Firebird 67 owner since 1st Aug 2020 in Germany. The backup lights are not working, because the backup switch seems to be missed. Thats my current finding, but I´m not sure because I didn´t find in the documents online, the real position for my car. Firebird 1967 Convertible 400cui Automatic Gearbox. I dismounted the middle console, awaiting to find the switch attached to the gear lever. All I could find are the cables , especially the light green one for the backup lights and the light socket without bulb (checked already the electric map). Please see the attached pics. Or could the Backup light switch only be found from underneath of the car ?
thank You very much for the reply and links. The website in generel was already known to me, but I didn´t find the detail you showed me. There´s another good website with a lot of illustrations: http://www.tpocr.com/67fbatconsoleshftipc.html
Another special Contact at the Automatic-Gearbox underneath the car , was a single contact with a horseshoe. I connected a cable and pulled it near to the floor shift into the car. Is this the downshift solenoid valve or the downshift solenoid terminal ? For what is that useful and how is it used ? http://thefirstgensite.com/library/partscounter/illustrated/auto/thmm401.html -> part 25

If the '67 is like my '68, there should be a switch mounted by the carb. On near-full throttle, the switch is actuated by the throttle linkage to force a downshift by the trans. I'll let a '67 owner elaborate on the switch. I know for the '68, the switch is not reproduced but used originals sometimes are located. There have been discussions here about aftermarket switches and designs that have been used. Do a search on the forum for "kickdown" and maybe another for "downshift" and you will find discussions, some specific to each of the three 1st Gen years.
Had a similar issue on my 400. i put in a new. No switch was connected to the munci 4 speed. I ended up getting a new tranny and had the switch installed proprtly on the linkage
