I need your help to figure out what is the correct water pump model for my car (it is currently being restored and the mechanic disposed of my original water pump (needed to be replaced) once he found a new one.
According to the internet, the correct pump for my car is 4782482 or 9782482 (this is the model I have).
The correct pulley is supposed to be 2'' high (my pulley is 2'' high). The correct number of the pulley is supposed to be 9786819.
The problem is my water pump pulley is not aligned with the belt (see attached picture).
I learned this water pump is supposed to be 3 5/8 long (from base to water pump pulley flange). Mine is 3 7/8.
Another problem is that the number I found online for the water pump (9782482) could be incorrect. According to Pontiac parts catalog, the correct water pump is 9793130 (see attached picture). Are those 2 models the same thing?
Is the timing cover original? If so, it takes an 8 bolt water pump. If you have a timing cover that takes an 11 bolt water pump somebody swapped it. Also, how does the water pump align with the power steering pulley? Water pumps are pretty standard. As far as I know, there are 8 bolt water pumps and 11 bolt pumps. The only issue is there are two length 11 bolt pumps. Early 69 had short snout and late 69 all the way through the 70s had long snout
