The hood on my car will not stay up all the way. ('68 400) One option is to continue to use a stick but I’m looking for advice on a more permanent solution. What’s been your experience? Is it as simple as replacing the spring or should I just get new hinges and springs? I think about how many times that hood has been raised and closed over 50+ years – so I may have a problem with not only the springs but the hinges – so it’s about time to replace them? I seem to recall a solution offered some years ago on here – inset a narrower spring (from a Volvo) in the existing spring. Would that work?
More than likely the springs are just wore out. Had the same issue with mine and after buying two different aftermarket sets that wouldn’t keep the hood up I finally found an NOS set online that actually held up my hood. They were all the same length but the cheaper aftermarket springs just didn’t have enough tension to support the weight of the hood
I had the same issue hood would come down about a foot and a half from fully up, so I eventually bought new hinges and springs. Didn't change a thing, I still have the same issue. unless the hood is not to be in the fully open position.
I had the same issue with my ‘68. Original 400 hood with ram air plate and foam seal. Had the original hinges rebuilt by Wilson (I think, can’t remember just now) and bought new springs. Worked great for a couple years, now beginning to sag again. Will likely change the springs again.
