Hey guys, anyone know where I can find ID numbers to tell what tranny I have?
I am finding that this car was parted together and not sure what I have or if tail is correct for a 1968 bird. Was told it was a turbo 400 but I have had alot of surprises so far. Thanks.

Look at transmission pan shape. Does it have a cable on right side for kickdown? ( T-350) Is kickdown switch at carb? Find a transmission fluid pan chart to identify your transmission. Google it!

The 400 pan will look similar to the shape of Texas and the 350 is basically square shaped with a missing corner

OK. Still trying to find if this tranny will fit the '68.
On bottom of pan it reads: Hydromatic division of GMC.
On side plate: 73-PC and 2884 with a big " D " on the tail shaft. Any ideas?
Also I was wondering what the length should be. Thanks.

Well, it seems like the transmission comes from a 1973 Pontiac full-size car with a 455.
* 73 = 1973
* PC = 455 V8 4bbl carb, Pontiac. Look here: http://www.teufert.net/trans/t-400.htm
* 2884 = I think this is the transmission serial number.

Sorry, I don't have any answer to you other questions, but I hope someone else will chime in.
