If you're not going for originality, go Edelbrock performer aluminum intake and then there is a wide range of carbs that will bolt up, quadrajets, holleys, edelbrocks, and other aftermarket 4 barrels. And then there's fuel injection....
Any of the 67 up 4 barrel intakes will fit, the difference on the 71 up will be more provisions for emissions and no provision for heated choke, your odds of finding both is high, the quad would need rebuilding, what you have to watch for with the quads are the lead seals in the bottom, they all leak, so you have to wire brush them and coat with hi-temp epoxy. Cliff's and The Carb Shop supposedly do great rebuilds and have kits for DIY.
The nice thing is Pontiac V8's were made in droves and it's all the same block so everything fits, there's no small block/big block like Chevy
Another way to go, which is expensive but cool is Holley's new sniper quad fuel injection, which I'd love to try, they have come up with a real cool fuel injection system that doesn't require a lot, almost all either use a external pump which is sure to fail OR an in tank pump and they require you to run a return line, even the Fitech pump system requires a vent return, what Holley has done is come up with a pump/gauge sender system that has the pump in the tank but the bypass is also in the tank, so no return line required which knock down the % of fires by 50%, and it fits your tank, you take out the gauge sender and replace it in the same spot. These are links to those products.
What's cool about FI is it doesn't care if your car has a 326, 350, 400 or 455 or ? it will automatically adjust and keep your fuel/air ratio perfect and make our cars more environmentally friendly, my only problem with it is the cost and the fact that I drive mine about 1000 miles a year, they'll be no payback except for no carb or ethanol headaches at all.
I can find an original 2 bbl intake 9790418 for a reasonable price, so what are my chance of finding an original or close (not Chinese) 2 bbl 7028062 Rochester?
Rebuild your quad or have it rebuilt, I have no idea why you'd want to spend money on going to a 2 barrel, there's never really any gain over the Pontiac factory intake manifolds, they are superior for street use.
Contact Cliff's with you carb ID #s and they will hook you up.
