My Dad bought this '69 Firebird 400 convertible in 1980. It always sat too low in the rear. Around 1989 he put new leaf springs on it, but it still sat too low in the rear, so he put air shocks on it. You can lift it up this way but then it rides like a truck.
I'd like to find a set of leaf springs that will lift the car an inch or so over stock. There's a car locally that sits up in the rear, like a muscle car should. It has larger than stock tires on the stock wheels, and looks really good. It has 5 leaves in the springs and doesn't have shackles. I asked the owner where the springs came from and he said he bought it that way.
I've called Jegs, Speedway, and others and I've only found 'lowering' springs.
There must be a spring with equivalent dimensions but with more arch to them. Has anyone been through this?
If you are interested, I have these springs collecting dust in the basement. Eaton Detroit Spring DS01, 4 leaf. 175# spring rate leaf springs, arched 1” taller than stock. Used one summer then changed direction and lowered my '68. These are stiff springs and are arched 1” taller than stock. $400 new. Condition: Like new. $75 + shipping. (Big & heavy. Will be expensive to ship) Research and see if they will work for you.
If you buy new springs the shipping is terrible anyway. Sounds like Dennis has a good deal. You can also talk to Detroit Eaton springs. They may have something off the shelf or can make custom springs (which is probably pricey)
I'm interested in this. Can you find out how much shipping will be? They may not have to be boxed since I'm not worried about scratching the paint. I'll send you my address.
