Greetings bird lovers. Wondering if I should I bother having somebody rebuild my brake calipers or use them to get my core deposit on new calipers?

I know your car is a 67 and if they are the original four piston calipers then in my opinion send them out to be rebuilt and sleeved. Many folks don't realize that the Camaros used a smaller piston then the Firebird but because they built almost triple the number of Camaros most of the cores that companies with your exchange are selling are the smaller piston variety. Because it can be a crap shoot to get the right ones, I recommend letting one of the quality rebuilders do yours. If they were converted to 69 and later single piston then just get rebuilt ones at your local parts store.

They are the 4 piston type. They're working just leaking a lot. I called a few local shops but nobody does it here. I was going to try to replace seals but after pulling one I'm not so sure. Lol

I have rebuilt them in the past, but they will they eventually end up leaking again because they use an aluminum piston in a cast iron bore. This is the reason why I suggested to have them sleeved. Also, if they were poorly maintained with no fluid changes the bores are probably deeply pitted anyways and the stainless-steel sleeve will take care of this problem also. I ended up sending mine to Brake & Equipment Warehouse, Minneapolis, MN , it took about 3 weeks, they did nice work.

Good to hear from you Duff, sorry to hear your letting go of the H.O. If you don't mind, how much did the re-sleave re-build cost you?

My calipers required extra work, because sometime in the past they had smaller diameter MOPAR pistons installed, machinist said that was a 1st for him. Anyways, clean calipers, SS sleeves, new pistons, bleeder screws and a set of relined OEM pads came to $880, that included UPS shipping back to me. We are preparing for a move, so we decided to sell a few cars, not too wild about seeing the bird sell, so we'll see how it goes.
