How can I verify if I have a numbers matching car? I would like to know if my engine was the original when the car was built.

I found the code stamp on the engine block (left of timing cover) 7 digits ending with YE. I understand YE is for a 69 Firebird but should the 7 digits match my VIN number?

The number stamped by the YE engine code is an engine serial number. A partial VIN will be stamped down from that serial number and code on the front of the block. The VIN stamping may be lighter and more difficult to see than the code.

The trans should also have that VIN.

Wouldn't that just tell him he has the right type of engine. Not necessarily the engine it came with?
