It has been quite a few years since I have been on this site. Kids have gotten older and I have started to get the car ready to go back out on the road. I have run into an issue with my brake lights. They will not come on. I have power from the fuse box to the brake switch, through the switch to the harness, and exiting the harness. I also have tail lights, running lights, marker lights, and turn signals out back. Sockets seem to need replaced because I sometimes have to wiggle the wires to keep the tail lights lit. I am thinking I have to replace the sockets and maybe the turn signal switch. Oh, I also have no hazard lights as well.
Ok. So I finally replaced the 4 bulb sockets in the trunk so they would ground better. Now when I turn on the lights, the left side works with turn signals, but the right side is solid brake light. I checked all the wiring in the trunk up to the back seat and it all looks good. Still no brake lights when pedal is depressed.
All lights pass thru the turn signal switch, you can check if you have brake lights at the connector for the turn signal switch at the steering column. One wire at the terminal on the connector is fed from the brake switch, then it goes to the turn signal switch and comes back out to the connector feeding left and right brake lights. you can check all of this with a test light right at the ribbon connector on the column.
I had a goofy problem like this a while back. Do you have an aftermarket column by any chance? I do, and the harness that passes through the column was too tight, and tilting the wheel caused some of the wires in the column fatigue, and connectivity was randomly lost. Not sure if that helps.
