I feel silly asking this but how in the heck does the rear license plate retainer supposed to go on? I just bought the kit from Ames which included the plastic square tabs and screws along with the metal bracket but what actually holds the bracket to the steel plate that attaches to the bumper? The tabs that came with the kit will not stay in the square cutouts that are made into the bumper bracket. Anyone got any closeups would really help

I think the Parts Illustrations (See Bumpers) at http://www.teufert.net/partbook/ shows that bracket. My '68, like Bob S's '67 does not have that bracket. There are several discussions here about the rear plate mounting. Some ownere have the bracket and a highr percentage do not. Search here for "rear license" (include the quote marks in the search).
