First I want to thank you all for the huge amount if info on here.
My Firebird has a 1970 455 with higher compression heads (15's). It is old and tired and I am starting to save up for the rebuild it needs. I would love to learn to build an engine, but do not feel, with the expense of Pontiac parts this would be prudent for me. Last thing I need to do is spend $10 grand and have a dead engine because I missed one step,
Having said all that, does anyone have a recommendation for a local Las Vegas, machine shop or builder?
My goal is a streetable 450-550 HP, I am debating on aluminum heads, since I am so tired of the crap gas we have around here.
TYIA Steve.

If your 15 heads are in good condition you could just do a set of dished pistons to drop compression ratio and save a good amount of money. Switching to aluminum heads is more than just buying the heads it is all the other stuff you will need. New head bolts, pushrods.....etc... it all adds up quick.
If you are willings to drive to SoCal, we are about 3 hrs away, I know a shop that is great with Pontiac motors, he is in San Bernardino, Ca. If not I will ask my buddy that has a shop in Vegas who he would recommend to build a motor in Vegas.
