I recently noticed my motor mounts are shot.......hmmm, now I rarely power shift, 4sp man, but I drive pretty hard, these were new factory style from Ames in 2006, probably 10k miles.
Was looking at different sources like Energy Suspension and looks like you get the rubber insert and have to reuse your metal brackets???? Saw some on Butler, like $250?? ouch
Also I read that some cars with RA exhaust manifolds (which I got a couple years back) have melted motor mounts, hmm, isn't that interesting? They look kind of squished I haven't gotten it apart yet, but anyone seen that???
My new stock rubber mount caught on fire last winter when I was breaking in my cam. Scared the crap out of me. I too have long branch manifolds. There was a lot of extra rubber and I think it was laying against the manifold. I cut away the burnt stuff and ran the car last summer. The motor is coming back out soon. I need to rethink the motor mounts. Also looking for guidance!
There aren't any good options as far as motor mounts go. Even the expensive urethane ones do no fit and need modification. But on the other side of the coin i have had plain old rubber mounts in my car for the past 12 years and they are fine.
Or header wrap. As long as there’s an air gap it should be OK. I ran these long branch manifolds for 15 years on the old motor with stock rubber mounts.
My buddy also had one of his rubber mounts catch fire in his garage shortly after returning from a drive. Lucky he caught it before something really bad happened. He has long branches as well. I ended up installing a solid mount on the driver side and have rubber on pass side. Kind of radical I know but works well for me.
