I HAVE RAN ACROSS A 400 BLOCK WITH DOUBLE XX AFTER THE 400 STAMP CAST IN. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE IN THIS BLOCK FROM OTHERS?

If it's not the actual casting number of the block - but the "400" indicator by the motor mount - then it means that the molds were either prototype (which would be indicated by an early casting date) or the molds were to be retired after the casting run because of wear/changes/problems.

i will go look and get some more info. the 400 and xx's were in raised lettering i believe on the flywheel end of the block??
