Looking at this one. He wants $9800. Has a 350/turbo 350., not running. Interior is decent, no major rust as reported by the owner. I've not seen the car yet.
Be aware of that the engine is a Chevrolet small block which is not the same as a Pontiac engine. It depends on what you want to do with the car, but a purist would say that a Chevy engine detracts from the value of the car. Also, there are different variants of the TH350 transmissions, one with a Chevy bolt pattern against the engine and another with the BOP (Buick/Olds/Pontiac) bolt pattern, so you must also change the transmission if you want to change the engine.
Pricewise, I can't give you any opinion since I live in europe and do not keep track of the price-level in the USA.
I'm aware the engine isn't stock. I'd rather have the pontiac engine in it, but a core 326 or 389 is $2500 or more and then about $2000 to $3000 rebuild. Just not worth it. I can get a L92 LS out of an escalade for $3000 and it's 403hp stock. Yes it will cost some to swap it in for the harness, headers, mounts, ect. I just did one in my 70 nova and the results were more than worth it. I used a T56 in the nova but I'll probably do a 4L60E if I get the car. For cost a pontiac engine or an LS is about a wash for cost.
At this point I'm not sure if I can get the car, I sent him a message and he didn't respond. Crossing my fingers. If he does I'm going to offer $8000 and see what he says.
Well he just responded to me. We will meet saturday.
I sure hope I can get some opinions of this one. To me it looks like a decent deal. To me the engine/trans isn't a big thing, its the lack of rust and a decent interior that gets my attention.
The core estimate you quoted seems really high to me. I’ve got a core 350 from a 69 I’d sell you for $300 and throw in the motor stand. I’m in northern Calif.
