Any ideas what this is with the black rubber bellows? Mounted to a metal plate with a beaded chain running from this to the throttle. Is it an aftermarket cruise control?

That's cool. According to the 1972 Parts book (pages 8-9 attached), it appears to be the optional cruise control for the '68. I don't recall ever seeing one before.
According to the Rocky Rotella's 1st Gen book, only 687 '68s ordered the option. (For V8s with automatic trans. only.)
The first eight pages of the 1968 Pontiac Service Manual Sect 15 describes it (not attached). Guess I never read those pages before since they didn't apply to my '68.

I had never seen anything like it either, but with it being attached to the throttle, nothing else made sense. Thanks for the info!
