I have a 1967 Firebird that a pretty original car, but not restored. Early April build, 400, 4 sp, PS, front 4 piston calipers, and factory ac, naming a few things. My master cylinder started leaking, so I have no brakes. I was informed many years ago that my master cylinder is a pretty rare master. Casting P/N is 5461818, it's a 1 1/8 master. Does anyone know anything about these. This also NOT a power brake car that why I think the master is a little unique. My plan is to send it off to White Post Restoration for rebuild.
If you have trouble, let me know. I have a 69 that the previous owner put a 1 1/8 bore master cyl on to improve braking with the drum brakes. I have since replaced everything and went with power disk. I kept the master. let me know if you have trouble finding one.
I was trying to find out if this is the original MC. The code is WT. So, casting number 5461818, code WT. Again, I have the original front 4 piston calipers, rear drums setup. This is manual brake car. Would like to make sure that this MC is correct to my car before I send it off to White Post for rebuild.
The 1968 Service Manual has a chart showing the master cylinder codes (CT and FR) used that year. I don't have a '67 Service Manual Firebird Supplement but if you or anyone reading this does, you might check to see if that year's document had the same Master Cylinder Usage Chart. It is in Standard Brakes section in '68.
This may not be 100% original, but a good option. Manual disc master Rock Auto shows some 1.125" masters for front disc too. Front disc master No mention of power or manual in specs. You know, back when these cars were new, it was SOP to rebuild master cylinders. I don't even know if rebuild kits are still available, but the FSM explains how to do it. You basically dismantle it, hone it out, and rebuild with new piston seals. You use alcohol to lube and clean everything. Well looky here: 1967 master rebuild kit
