Any insight on the angled oil filter housing...I bought an angled housing from Firebird Central (OEM part #5579457) and it is different from the stock housing (OEM part #5578441) I took off my 400 bird to install the long branch manifolds, even the Bosch 3423 filter does not even come close to fitting. In fact the housing seems to angle to the center of the car rather than to the rear. The Firebird parts catalog shows 9781942 (adapter for Ram Air) and 9781943 (Plate Ram Air). Any help figuring this out would be appreciated. Thank you.
Here's photos of mine; original (untouched since the factory) 400HO, Long Branch manifolds, and the filter adapter with the Ac PF24 filter I use. There should be sufficient clearance.
Not part of your question is that dropping it away from the car to remove the filter can be fun. On mine only one "sweet spot" exists between the exhaust pipe and body under the car to squeeze it through.
Thank you for the photos. It seems like I have two choices; 1) use the slanted oil filter housing with the Pontiac 3 piece adapter, or 2) use the Butler Performance one piece adapter with the 90 degree housing. Seems like if you use shorter bolts for the 3 piece, leaks are not a problem. Not sure which direction I will go, but when I figure it out, I will post the results for the future knowledge base. Jay
