The power top on my '69 has always (for as long as I've owned it) been slow to lift out of the well. Starting this spring it needs help to get about 1/4 of the way up and then it manages to go the rest of the way on it's own. Does this indicate a weak pump, leaking cylinders or some other problem?
Any help / ideas are appreciated.

Probably just a little low on fluid. Top off the pump with ATF.

Thankyou bigchief. That seems to be the problem. I added fluid and the top comes up out of the well just fine. The only issue I had was no matter how hard I tried I could not get the original rubber plug back into the pump. I guess a $7 plug from Amazon is a small price to pay for a working top.

no problem i figured that would be the problem. I did a repair on convertible top system in a car not to long ago and started from scratch with a system i had to bleed all of the air out. Which took the good part of a half an hour.
