OK I have rebuilt my front end. The replacement springs have lifed the frontend so it looks higher than the back. Has anyone used the stiffer lowering springs? I have non-stock tires - bigger BFG 60's. Will they still work?
I put Hotchkiss 2" lowering springs on my '67, and I really like them. I like the stance of the car, and I have no complaints about the ride or anything else. They really made a difference over the worn out springs that were on it when I bought it--no more instances of the tires rubbing when I hit a dip in the road.
As far as tire fitment, I'm afraid I have no idea.
Rob ,you probably got the wrong springs , i`ve heard that some front springs are listed wrong and gets it up too high....you might try to email Drew Helm ,ask him I think he got his correctede after having the wrong first...of course his is a 69.... Drew = KHelm@reliant.com
You say it looks higher than the back. Is it that it looks higher in the front, or is it actually higher in the front? If the height along the rocker is the same distance from the ground in the front and in the back, the car looks as if its @$$ is dragging.
If you're only concerned with easy wheel squealing, @$$ up is the only way to go. If you want it to hook up--something that's a major problem with f/g/f cars--a lower in the back stance will increase the hook up rate dramatically because it moves the center of gravity toward the back of the car.
There are measurements on this site in the AMA specs for the height up to the rocker panel. After I put the 6308's on my OHC, the car sat reasonably close to that spec. sixstarved, did you have the 6312s on there like I did? They are supposed to be correct for a 350, but on the OHC the car looked ready for liftoff.
the front is actually designed to be slightly higher , whether you like that or not....and no you cant cut 1/2 coil off , you need to cut one full coil if you do it ( I did) because otherwise the end wont fit in its 'pocket'...
i dont remember for sure what i put on it first. i think they were listed for a 1bbl vert. it would have taken an extra engine to drop it down to the right height. the shocks were topped out.
the SBC camaro guys use the 6308s too. i dont know for sure that they'd work with the Pontiac8, but I can add quite a bit of weight to my front bumper before it moves much.
Yeah, mine were topped out as well with the 6312 springs. Seemed like the ball joints were fully cocked. I was hoping they would settle down, but they didn't. Probably just fine for a 350. I sold the them to a local guy, not sure if he put them on his car yet.
I honestly don't remember which springs I installed first. I ended up going with a higher rate spring that needed to be cut to achieve the ride hieght I was going for.
I believe the 6312 is the correct one for you to use wiht a Pontiac V8.
