I was at a car show last sat. and found a 69 convertable that had speakers in the kick panels. He claimed they were factory installed does anyone out there know if this is true? And if it is what size and exactly where is the correct location to mount them. Any help is appreciated as I am thinking of adding them to my 69. http://firstgenfirebird.org/show/closeup.mv?CarID=661
Yes, factory kick panel speakers were available with AM/FM stereo. I have photos, but no measurements. A thread was posted here recently... https://firstgenfirebird.org/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=23;t=004061

2 years ago now...Infinity 462.5cfp. They are 1 3/4" deep and the cutout size required is 3 5/8" x 5 1/4". I'd recommend doing a mockup out of heavy cardboard or something to make sure your speakers will fit before cutting the kicks.

Send me your email, and I'll send it to you. Yes, the main thing you need to watch is the depth of the speaker. But if you use original style grills you mount the speaker from the outside of the panels (on top of the panel) as the cover has about 1/4" depth. http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/brettliukkonen/detail?.dir=34b2&.dnm=d04b.jpg&.src=ph

you can see here that i upgraded a little bit from the originals.
they are JBL GTO series 4" with a JBL GTO series 1" tweeter.
the speakers a quite deep and almost touch the panel metal, about 3/4" room behind them. the tweeters are just run through small plug holes. they make the tweeters with pop in mounts. the tweeters also have a inline crossover.
wanting to keep original look, i through the MP3 player into the glove box
Thanks to all of you for the help, I am having a hard time cutting the kick panels and if I decide too, I want to make sure it works and looks period correct(somewhat) I am looking at some infinity 4" speakers so this will help.
