They look quite well restrained. With the double U bolt on both sides you have plenty of holding power. Just makes sure they are very tight. Try to put an extra crank or two on them now that they have seated themselves. Jim
First, the car hasn't been driven since 1993 and the brake lines are on the replace list before it hits the road again.
sixstarved - guilty as charged. It's amazing how ignorant I was in '90.
The oversize u-bolts are a leftover from the H-O Racing rear sway bar kit that didn't quite fit (now I wonder if the 3-leaf screwed up the geometry). The nut has a light countersink on the top so a traditional lock washer won't work. I'll think about a jam nut, though.
Bjorn - there's easily three inches of u-bolt threads protruding. The bottom of the bolt is even with the shock mount bottom.
I guess with a recheck of the tightness I won't worry about it. Thanks again.
I can tell from the pic that you had a mono leave originally. Are the spring packs banded front and rear? If not you might want to take them out to a sping shop and have them banded, but otherwise they look OK. Lock nuts aren't needed on the U-bolts but you should trim off the extra bolt threads.
-=>Lee<=- Due to budget constraints the "light at the end of the tunnel" has been turned off!
1967 cam/firebird base models were equipt with mono leaf srings, which I know your aware of unlike the multi-leaf springs of the model years there-after the spring saddles on the axle were deeper. When up-dated a '67 the saddle should be replace or install a 68/69 axle['70 will not fit as the saddles ar wider] Since that has not been done the centre bolt is all thats holding the axle to the spring and the saddle is only contacting at the first two leafs. The dual "U" bolts is good insurance, but it looks as though your just about out of thread! Maybe some correct Bolt migt secur them better.
