I recently bought the gas tank kit from Classic Industries. It's a galvanized tank. I noticed some people painted it to the underbody color, or clear-coated it. What do you recommend? I'be been told that if I don't put something on it rust will appear even if it's galvanized. Any thoughts?
Eastwood's makes a coating that "looks" galvanised called Tank Tone. That's what I used. A heavy clear coat (Eastwood's offers those, too) would be another good choice.

Clear is a little touchy with surface adhesion on bare metal. The tank tone would probably stick better. I used POR 15 silver on mine and it worked good. Jim
I finally opened the box that the fuel tank came in. It's already coated with a light silverish-gray coating. I don't think I'm going to mess with it because it looks nice.
Here are a couple of pictures of my tank. I shot it with tank tone. I didnt sand it down so you will see imperfections on the top, but no one sees that side anyways Looks good for an original tank: http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/cimmer77/album?.dir=11a0&.src=ph&store=&prodid=&.done=http%3a//photos.yahoo.com/ph//my_photos
Joe, That color is close to what my new tank color is. I noticed on the side of the box it says the tank is galvanized, and painted with a special coating for durability. It looks really nice. The funny thing is I will probably end up putting a fuel injectin system on my car (after bodywork/paint, 455, etc., etc.). I will have to replace the tank again at that point with a tank that is baffled with an in tank fuel pump.
