hi ,im trying to find out what undercoat matches the factory stuff used in the wheel wells on 67 firebird.has anyone found any that looks the same. thanks, tony
I ended up using PreservaTek TM asphalt undercoat from Classic Industries. The factory (at least in '68 literature) used a considerably more textured asphalt but this is the closest I've found to date. Three spray cans covered the four wells. I had tried a couple of the rubberized coatings but they didn’t seem right to me so I scraped them off.
3-M makes a great spray-on undercoating. It's not too "rubbery" or shiny. And it sticks really well. I've noticed that some undercoating turns brown over the course of a couple of years. Nasty. The 3-M doesn't.
I don't know how close to accurate it is, but I've had excellent luck with it.
thanks for replys.i am looking for some that goes on real thick . the factory stuff was about a 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick in my old rear wheelhouses. i put new ones in from the paddock and wanted to match the orig.stuff. has anyone tried the body schutz that takes a gun to spray it on with. i would like to see how it looks before i buy it . thanks, tony
