The are on the front face of the block, along the timing cover, toward the passenger side. It is very hard to see them. My humble advice is to clean the area, then look with a strong lamp, or make a pencil rubbing of the area. Also do a search of the Tech help section. The locations were posted with diagrams from www.1968Firebird.org
I did not realize how dirty the dam engine was. I found the following near the head: 082590 YJ I know what the YJ means, but what about the other numbers. I will check the vin code when I can get the car outside. It looks like this is easier for underneath. Correct???????
The 082590 is the engine sequence number. It was used by the engine factory to track changes made during engine production. The engine sequence number was recorded on your build sheet and will appear on the car billing history, but otherwise won't tell you anything.
Yes, I believe the partial VIN is easier to see from underneath.
