Hello everyone. I need some advice on heads. I guess i am looking for a quick education. I want to put this 400 block in my bird. I do not have heads for it yet. I eventually want to put edlebrocks on it. My goal is 400+ hp. Now the question is i don't have the funds to do this yet so i would like to put some factory ones on for the time being. What do you recommend? I have seen alot of 6x heads. like i said i do not know alot of what these are. I knkow the workings of heads and how to assemble them but nothing else really. I ahve also seen 6x-4? Please help. I thank you for any input you may have. I also should say that this is going to be a cruiser engine that eventually will melt the tires on command . Thanks again
I have a 72 model 400 in mine ,got great help/ info from John Wallace and Quenton....bought the "not so well known" 5C heads with big valves, and had them milled to 88 cc, runs great and can use regular pump gas
I first want to thank all of you for the responses. I should be a little more detailed. I am putting this 400 block in the car. It is a 1969 block i am not sure what it came out of. I can't find anymore numbers on the block except for the date code. It does have a D N on it but nothing i have researched told me what that was. I am going to build this engine on a somewhat budget. I am trying to find some heads that will work good on pump gas and ok performance. I will reconsider the goal if i have to do frame and body mods to handle it. I guess i am just looking foward to getting it back on the road. Again thanks for you help and any other suggestions. Denko
