How would one go about discovering the original type of engine in a car? Is there a vin number that shows whether a car had a 350 or a 400/ what engine code the car originaly had? Or are there some other "clues" as to what the car originaly had under the hood?

get a PHS document....
"normally" its easy to see if it was a 400, unless its 'cloned' , you would have a 400 V arrowhead on the front bumper, 400 emblems on hood, possibly a 400 emblem on trunk etc...
