Simulate the pebble grain? I just primed and painted over the original burlwood.
I think what you are seeing is how the paint with the metallic flake is showing up in the photo. It will eventually be the body color.
I just bought the Camaro pod, cut a hole in the top plate of the console, flanged it, pop riveted the pod to the console plate, spread aobut 5 layers of filler (I suck at filler), primed and painted. I also had to clearance the top of the console for the gauges to fit.
What also doesn't show up is that I glued 1/8 foam to the side of the console and stretched the same fabric that I used for my seat covers over it.
Took longer than I figured it should, but I am happy with the results.

Looks really sharp Daryl. I really like it. Too bad I went a different direction with my gauges a while ago otherwise I would be acquiring your idea. Very Nice
I originally had a console clock but recently sold it. The gauges I added were just 2 1'16 Autometer gauges in a gauge pod that is made to fit a Camaro console. I breifly thought of just buying a Camaro console but decided to take a try at grafting the pod into the firebird console. I'm glad I did it this way.

Nice work, looks great! Nice clean install... and I'm sure it will fool most car people who don't know Firebirds... and even some who do into thinking it's a factory console set up...
Thanks for letting us see the results! Great work!
I've been trying to come up with a similar setup myself. What gauge pod did you use? What year, etc? The four gauge set-ups I've seen are for the rectangular gauges.
Looks really good! Thanks.

Its actually an Autometer gauge pod. It can be bought through Ricks First Gen, Summit or others. The summit pic is wrong on their website. The autometer part number is P/N 10002. You are correct, the stock Camaro gauges are rectangle. This is for aftermarket gauges.
Thanks Lee.
